Short answer: Grafana Cloud is the best all-round Datadog alternative in 2026: it covers metrics, logs, and traces on a $19/month Pro plan and costs about a fifth of Datadog for our modeled 10-host team. SigNoz is the pick if you want one OpenTelemetry-native tool you can also self-host, and Better Stack is the pick if what you mostly need is uptime checks, on-call, status pages, and cheap log search. Datadog is still the most complete platform, so stay if you depend on its integrations, security products, or synthetics.

Teams look for a Datadog alternative for one reason more than any other: the bill. Datadog charges per host for infrastructure and APM, then separately for log ingest, indexed log events, and custom metrics, so the invoice grows on several axes at once. The three tools on this page price mostly on data volume instead, which is cheaper for most small and mid-size teams and easier to forecast.

Prices on this page are list rates from the Datadog, Grafana Cloud, Better Stack, and SigNoz pricing pages, checked on October 30, 2026. Datadog figures match our Datadog vs New Relic vs Sentry comparison. DevToolReviews does not sell an observability product, so none of these four is ours.

What a 10-host team pays each month

Assumptions: 10 hosts running APM, 100 GB of logs, 50 GB of traces, 20,000 active metric series scraped every 60 seconds (about 864 million samples a month), and 5 people who need access. Better Stack telemetry is priced in its US region. These are list prices with no committed-use discounts.

ToolHow the total breaks downModeled monthly cost
Datadog$150 infrastructure + $310 APM + $10 log ingest + about $170 for indexing roughly 100 million log eventsAbout $640
Grafana Cloud Pro$19 platform + $65 for 10K extra series + $27.50 for 50 GB extra logs + $16 for 2 extra users; traces fit in the included 50 GBAbout $128
SigNoz Cloud$30 logs + $15 traces + about $86 metrics; the $49 base is absorbed by usageAbout $131
Better StackAbout $23 logs + about $12 traces; metrics fit in the included 30 GB; add $29 to $34 per on-call responderAbout $35 plus seats

Two numbers move these totals more than anything else. On Datadog it is indexed log volume, which is why many teams index only a fraction of what they ingest. On Grafana Cloud and SigNoz it is metric cardinality and scrape interval: scraping every 15 seconds instead of every 60 quadruples SigNoz's metric samples, and a single high-cardinality label can multiply Grafana's series count.

Grafana Cloud

Grafana Cloud is the hosted version of the open-source LGTM stack: Mimir for metrics, Loki for logs, Tempo for traces, and Pyroscope for profiles, with Grafana dashboards on top. It accepts Prometheus and OpenTelemetry data, so most teams can point existing exporters at it without new agents. The Free plan is generous enough to run a side project or a small production service indefinitely.

The cost is assembly. Datadog gives you dashboards the moment the agent starts; Grafana gives you building blocks and a large library of community dashboards. Application Observability, Kubernetes Monitoring, and other add-ons bill separately from the core usage above, so check them before you commit.

SigNoz

SigNoz is an open-source observability platform built on OpenTelemetry and ClickHouse. Traces, logs, and metrics share one interface, and you can jump from a slow span to the logs it emitted without switching tools, which is the Datadog workflow most teams miss when they leave. You can run the open-source edition on your own infrastructure or use SigNoz Cloud, which now starts at $49/month with that $49 counted toward usage. Enterprise plans, including dedicated cloud and bring-your-own-cloud, start at $4,000/month.

It loses to Datadog on breadth. There is no catalog of hundreds of one-click integrations, and you instrument through OpenTelemetry SDKs and the Collector rather than a single agent. If you are already on OpenTelemetry, that is a feature; if you are not, budget time for it.

Better Stack

Better Stack started as uptime monitoring with incident management and status pages, then added log search, metrics, and OpenTelemetry tracing. Its strength is the on-call loop: a failed check opens an incident, pages the right responder by phone, SMS, or Slack, and updates a public status page. Telemetry is priced per GB at some of the lowest rates on this page.

The trade-off is APM depth. Better Stack can store and search traces, but it does not replace Datadog's automatic service maps, trace analytics, or continuous profiler. Many teams pair it with Sentry or SigNoz for application performance and use Better Stack for uptime and incidents.

Where each option fits (and where it does not)

ToolChoose it whenSkip it when
Grafana CloudYou want metrics, logs, and traces replaced in one hosted product and already know Prometheus or GrafanaYou want polished, opinionated dashboards and APM views with no setup
SigNozYou are standardizing on OpenTelemetry, want APM and logs in one UI, or need a self-hosted option for data residencyYou depend on dozens of Datadog integrations or on Datadog's security products
Better StackYour main Datadog spend is on uptime checks, alerting, and logs, and you also need on-call and a status pageDistributed tracing and service-level APM are central to how you debug
DatadogYou run large, multi-cloud infrastructure and value one vendor for infra, APM, logs, RUM, synthetics, and securityYour bill grows faster than your traffic and most of the features go unused

Datadog keeps the highest score here (9.2, the same rating it has in our Datadog vs New Relic vs Sentry comparison), because no alternative matches its breadth. The alternatives win on price and on open standards, which is why most teams that switch move part of their workload, not all of it.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Datadog alternative in 2026?

Grafana Cloud is the best general Datadog alternative in 2026 for teams that want metrics, logs, and traces in one hosted product at a lower price. Its Pro plan is $19/month plus usage, with 10,000 metric series, 50 GB of logs, and 50 GB of traces included. SigNoz is the better pick if you want a single OpenTelemetry-native tool you can also self-host, and Better Stack is the better pick if uptime monitoring, on-call, and status pages matter more than deep APM.

How much cheaper than Datadog are Grafana Cloud, Better Stack, and SigNoz?

For our modeled small team (10 hosts with APM, 100 GB of logs, 50 GB of traces, 20,000 metric series, 5 users), Datadog list prices come to about $640/month. The same workload is about $128/month on Grafana Cloud Pro, about $131/month on SigNoz Cloud, and about $35/month in telemetry on Better Stack plus $29 to $34 for each on-call responder seat. These are October 2026 list prices before discounts or overages.

Is SigNoz a good replacement for Datadog?

For APM, distributed tracing, logs, and metrics, yes. SigNoz is built on OpenTelemetry and stores data in ClickHouse, so you instrument once with open standards and can self-host the open-source edition or use SigNoz Cloud from $49/month (which includes $49 of usage). It does not match Datadog's breadth: there is no equivalent to Datadog's 300+ turnkey integrations, cloud security products, or the same depth of synthetic and real user monitoring.

Is Better Stack a full Datadog alternative?

Partly. Better Stack replaces the uptime monitoring, incident management, on-call scheduling, status pages, and log search that many teams use Datadog for, and it ingests OpenTelemetry traces and metrics. It is not a like-for-like APM replacement: if you rely on Datadog's automatic service maps and deep trace analytics, Grafana Cloud or SigNoz is the closer swap.

Does Grafana Cloud have a free tier?

Yes. The Grafana Cloud Free plan includes 10,000 active metric series, 50 GB of logs, 50 GB of traces, and 3 active users per month, with 14-day retention and community support. The $19/month Pro plan keeps the same included usage, extends metrics retention to 13 months and logs and traces to 30 days, and bills overages per unit.

Can I migrate from Datadog without re-instrumenting my code?

Not entirely. Datadog agents and dd-trace libraries send data in Datadog's own format. The lowest-effort path is the OpenTelemetry Collector, which can receive data from some Datadog sources and forward it to Grafana Cloud, Better Stack, or SigNoz while you move services over to OpenTelemetry SDKs one at a time. Dashboards, monitors, and alert rules have to be rebuilt in every case.
